John Gustave Droege, opened his store, a general mercantile that sold everything from groceries and dry goods to cloth items and furnishings. John G. Droege had come to the Washington area from Hanover, Germany, in 1854 with his parents, Fritz and Anna Droege. He was just 11 years old, but already entertained visions of owning his own general store someday.

During the 1960’s Droege’s added their catering business and introduced their Famous Fried Chicken… and the rest has been a delicious history.

In 2023, Kurt and Michelle Unnerstall acquired the Droege’s building and Droege’s Catering. The next generation of catering is just around the corner.
